Aldo Donati: Italian Football Legend and Scientist
Early Career at BolognaAldo Donati, a renowned Italian footballer, began his professional career with Bologna in 1929. Despite making his debut in 1930, he spent much of his time on the sidelines, only playing more than 10 league matches in the 1934-35 season.
Student and Footballer
Concurrent with his football career, Donati pursued a degree in agriculture at the University of Bologna. In 1933, he graduated with a thesis on plant leaf pigments.
Success with Bologna
Despite his limited playing time, Donati's time at Bologna saw significant success. He helped the club win the Mitropa Cup in 1932 and 1934, and secured two Serie A titles.
World War II and Return to Football
In 1937, Donati joined Roma. His impressive performance earned him a spot on the Italian national team for the 1938 FIFA World Cup, where he played no minutes but became a World Cup champion. In 1942, he celebrated his third league title with Roma's first-ever Serie A triumph. However, his career was interrupted by World War II when he was drafted into the Italian Army.
Post-War Career
Donati returned to football in 1945, briefly playing for Inter Milan. He made two appearances before retiring from the sport.
