Biography of Aman Kurbanov
Aman Kurbanov is a former Soviet and Turkmenian footballer who is now a coach.
Early Career
Born in Ashgabat, Kurbanov played for Stroitel/Kolkhozchi Ashgabat in the Soviet first and second divisions. He also represented the Turkmenistan SSR national team at the 1979 Summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Kurbanov embarked on a coaching career. In the 1990s, he led the Turkmenistan Olympic football team.
In 2002, Kurbanov guided Karakum Turkmenabat to victory in the Turkmenistan Cup. He then took Aşgabat to the final of the same competition in 2004, where they narrowly lost to Nebitçi 0-1.
Ahal and Ashgabat
In August 2005, Kurbanov took over as manager of Ahal, but failed to lift them from bottom place. The following year, he was appointed manager of top-flight newcomers Aşgabat. However, he was dismissed halfway through the season after a defeat to Turan Dashoguz.
Altyn Asyr
In 2008, Kurbanov joined another debutant club, Altyn Asyr from Ashgabat. That summer, he led them to their first Turkmenistan Cup triumph. In 2010 and 2011, the team won the Turkmenistan President's Cup.
Silverware and Legacy
In 2010, Altyn Asyr finished as runners-up in the Turkmenistan Championship. Kurbanov left the club after a successful spell in charge.
Kurbanov has been recognized for his contributions to football in Turkmenistan, earning the title of Honored Coach of Turkmenistan. His son, Amir, is a professional footballer who currently plays in the Turkmenistan Championship.
