Early Life and Education

Alexander Zdanowicz was born in 1808 into a poor noble family in the Igumen district of Minsk Governorate. He received his early education at a Basilian school in the village of Lyady, near Igumen.

Teaching and University Studies

To fund his further education, Zdanowicz worked as a home tutor for two years. In 1827, he entered Vilnius University's Faculty of Letters. He graduated in 1831 with a Candidate's degree.

Literary Career

After graduating, Zdanowicz taught Latin and history at the Vilnius Noble Institute. He also assisted Antoni Odyniec in editing "Vilenskii Vestnik" and contributed to the editorial board of Edward Orgelbrand's "Słownik języka polskiego," for which he devised the concept.

Later Career

In 1859, Alexander Antonovich Zdanowicz became an active member of the personal staff of the Museum of Antiquities of the Vilnius Archaeological Commission.
