Biography of Alex Cumber

Alex Cumber, born on December 28, 1973, is a British athlete and skeleton racer who competed in the late 90s and early 2000s. Despite fracturing her wrist during training just 10 days before the race, Cumber won a bronze medal in women's skeleton at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Alexandra Hamilton, as she was known before her marriage in 2000, has achieved numerous accomplishments in the field of women's skeleton. In her first participation at the British Championship, she emerged as the champion and remained undefeated throughout her sporting career, holding the national title in her discipline.

Cumber's most notable achievement was winning the Skeleton World Cup for three consecutive years, from 1999-2000 to 2001-2002. This remarkable record was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. She is the only British female athlete to have achieved this feat in consecutive Winter Sports World Cups. Cumber also set records on tracks in La Plagne, Lake Placid, and Nagano.

In the 2001 FIBT World Championships held in Calgary, Cumber secured a silver medal, adding to her impressive collection of accolades.

Before her career in sports, Cumber served as an officer in the British Royal Air Force. She decided to retire from sports to return to her military profession. Prior to her military service, Cumber studied at Hertford College, Oxford.
