Early Life and Education

Alex Quaison-Sackey was born in Ghana and received his education in the United Kingdom, attending Exeter College, Oxford University, and the London School of Economics.

Diplomatic Career

Ambassador to the United Nations

Quaison-Sackey played a significant role as Ghana's first Ambassador to the United Nations from 1959 to 1965.

President of the UN General Assembly

In 1964, he made history by becoming the first African to be elected President of the UN General Assembly, serving from 1964 to 1965.

Ambassadorship to Cuba and Mexico

Concurrently with his role at the UN, Quaison-Sackey served as Ghana's Ambassador to Cuba (1961-1965) and Mexico (1962-1964).

Minister of Foreign Affairs

In 1965, he returned to Ghana to serve as Minister of Foreign Affairs. However, his tenure lasted only a few months before the overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah's government in February 1966.
