Alex Turner: A British Music Icon

There are few contemporary musicians who can boast the fame and fan love that surrounds this young Brit. In an incredibly short amount of time, Alex has become an icon of English indie rock and its main protagonist. The incredible popularity of Arctic Monkeys was followed by the resounding success of The Last Shadow Puppets. Alex's solo works have also received enthusiastic reviews from both critics and fans, who can be found in the most remote corners of the globe. Interestingly, amidst the constantly evolving indie rock scene, Turner seems like a veteran whose peak career is behind him. In reality, however, the musician is only 27 years old and, as he admitted in an interview, he has no intention of looking back.

Biography

Alex Turner is a British musician who has become a legend of English indie rock as the vocalist and guitarist of the band Arctic Monkeys. Today, the musician also plays in the band The Last Shadow Puppets, which he formed with his friend Miles Kane, and records solo albums.

Alex Turner

Alex Turner was born on January 6, 1986, in Sheffield, United Kingdom, to Penny and David Turner. His father taught German and music, and it was he who first encouraged Alex's musical interest. While Alex performed well in school, one of his teachers admitted that he never fit within the societal norms and always had his own thoughts and ideas.

In 2001, Alex received his first guitar as a gift from his parents. This sparked a deep passion in him and he seriously considered attending university to study music. Interestingly, even as a successful musician, he revealed that he had made up his mind that if Arctic Monkeys didn't work out or didn't appeal to fans, he would abandon his dreams of becoming a rock star and go to Manchester University.

However, that was not meant to be. In 2002, Alex became the vocalist and guitarist of the young band Arctic Monkeys, which quickly started attracting attention from indie rock fans and caught the eye of music critics. Their first album, "Five Minutes with Arctic Monkeys," was self-released in limited quantities, but somehow, the record quickly gained popularity. At their first concert after the album's release, the band was met with a crowd of fans that far exceeded the expected number of attendees.

Their next work, "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor," released immediately after signing a contract rumored to be worth over a million pounds, topped the British charts, making the musicians global stars. Each new album was greeted with doubled attention from the public, and critics and music magazines began discussing the band's talent and the speed at which they were evolving. In fact, their latest album received a perfect score of 10 out of 10 from the New Musical Express.

Alex's second project, The Last Shadow Puppets, presented a completely different side of the musician to fans. Working in tandem with Miles Kane, Alex reached a whole new level. The band's songs noticeably differed from Alex's earlier works with a more aggressive and straightforward sound, as well as lyrics co-written by Turner and Kane. Their first album, "The Age of the Understatement," was released in 2008 and topped the indie rock charts in its first week.

Alex's solo career, which began in 2010, is equally intriguing. He recorded the entire soundtrack for the film "Submarine," and after the film's success, it was released as a separate album on March 18, 2011. Alex not only accurately captured the atmosphere of the film about the difficult life of a British teenager but also complemented it with his own songs.

Today, Alex continues to work on his first solo album and performs in two bands.
