Early Life and Military Education
Born on September 10, 1887, in Kyiv, to a noble family, Sergei Vorobiev received his early education at the Bakhtin Cadet Corps in Orel and the Pavlovsk Military School, graduating in 1907.
Aviation Pioneer
After serving in the 6th Pontoon Battalion, Vorobiev transferred to the Siberian Air Battalion. In 1912, as a lieutenant, he was sent to the Officer Aeronaut School. He continued his aviation training at the Gatchina Aviation School and Theoretical Aviation Courses.
World War I Service
Assigned to the Kovno Fortress Air Battalion, Vorobiev saw action in World War I. Recognized as a skilled technical specialist, he was decorated with the Order of Saint Vladimir, 4th Class, with swords and bow, in 1915. He rose to the rank of captain and became assistant commander of the 3rd Air Park.
Civil War and Exile
Following the October Revolution, Vorobiev opposed the Bolsheviks. He served briefly in Hetman Skoropadsky's army and later in the Volunteer Army and Armed Forces of South Russia (VSUR). After the evacuation from Crimea, he joined the aviation battalion of the Russian Army in Gallipoli.
Post-War Life
In 1925, Vorobiev settled in Yugoslavia, where he served in the Technical Battalion. He later moved to France, where he became a member of the Union of Russian Military Pilots and Deputy Commandant of the Russian Masonic House.
Legacy
Vorobiev passed away on August 21, 1965, in Paris. He was buried at the Saint-Genevieve-des-Bois Cemetery, leaving behind a legacy of service and innovation in Russian aviation.
