Early Life and Education
Alexander Dobrovolsky is a Belarusian politician who holds a degree in radio physics from Belarusian State University (1982) and a degree in law from the same university (1995).
Career in Engineering and Politics
Prior to his political career, Dobrovolsky worked as an engineer at the Design Bureau of Precision Electronic Engineering (1982-1990). In 1989, he was elected as a People's Deputy of the USSR, serving on the Committee on Industry and later as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms.
Founding Independent Research Institutions
In 1992, Dobrovolsky established the Independent Institute of Socioeconomic and Political Research (NISEPI), where he served as executive director until 1994 and research fellow until 1995.
Leadership in the Democratic Movement
Dobrovolsky co-founded the United Democratic Party of Belarus (ODPB) in 1990, becoming its chairman from 1991 to 1995. In 1995, the ODPB merged with the Civil Party to form the United Civic Party (UCP). Dobrovolsky held the position of deputy chairman of the UCP.
Member of Parliament and Political Activism
Elected to the Supreme Council of Belarus in 1995, Dobrovolsky led the Media Subcommittee and joined the "Civil Action" parliamentary group. He also represented a group of deputies in the Constitutional Court during the impeachment proceedings against President Lukashenko in 1996.
Continuing Political Engagement
From 1995 to 2006, Dobrovolsky served as deputy chairman of the UCP, and from 2006 onward, he has been a member of its Political Council. He has played an active role in presidential election campaigns and was a candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2008 elections, but withdrew his candidacy in protest against government interference.

Dobrovolsky is married with a son and a daughter. His hobbies include electronics, music, tourism, and skiing.
