Early Career
Born in Latvia, Maris Verpakovskis emerged as a promising young footballer and began his professional career in 1992 with Skonto FC, the leading club in Latvia at the time. As a striker, Verpakovskis quickly established himself as a key goalscorer for the team.
International Success
In addition to his club career, Verpakovskis represented the Latvian national team, making 37 appearances and scoring four goals. During his international tenure, he contributed to the team's success on the international stage.
Overseas Adventures
In 1995, Verpakovskis ventured abroad, playing briefly for Hapoel Be'er Sheva in Israel before joining Stadler FC in Hungary. After a season in Hungary, he returned to Skonto FC in 1996.
Russian League
In 1997, Verpakovskis joined Metallurg Lipetsk in Russia's first division, where he became one of the team's most influential players, scoring 17 goals in a single season. He later moved to the Russian top-flight with Uralan but only made four appearances.
Return to Latvia and Final Years
Verpakovskis returned to Latvia in 2001 and spent the next three years with Skonto FC. He then played in China and Finland before returning to Latvia in 2005. In the latter stages of his career, he briefly played futsal for LSPA.
Post-Playing Career
After retiring from playing, Verpakovskis pursued coaching. He completed coaching courses and served as a coach for the Latvia U-19 national team in 2011.
