Childhood and Education
Alexander Getmansky was born on January 22, 1960, in Vysoke, Ukraine. He studied at a music school and graduated in 1984 with a degree in acting from the Kharkiv Institute of Arts. His mentor was renowned Soviet actor Alexander Serdyuk.
Theatre Career
Getmansky began his acting career at the Kyiv Young Spectators Theatre, where he spent 15 years. He later moved to the Kyiv Drama and Comedy Theatre and in 2004 joined the Lesia Ukrainka National Academic Theatre.
Among his notable theatrical roles were Don Quixote in "Don Quixote," John Smith in "The Over-Married Taxi Driver," and Leonid Gaev in "The Cherry Orchard." He also taught acting at the Kyiv State University of Theatre, Cinema, and Television.
Film and Television
Getmansky made his screen debut in 1994's erotic comedy "Several Love Stories." His first major role was in the 2002 drama "The Embroiderer at Dusk." He also appeared in films such as "Strange Christmas" and "1942."
In television, Getmansky played military and police chiefs in numerous series, including "Trace of the Werewolf," "Odessa-Mama," and "Mentovskie Voyni: Odessa." His final role was as Polulakh in the second season of "On Your Side."
Personal Life
Getmansky was married twice. He had four children: Denis, Maxim, Bogdan, and Sophia. His first wife, Natalia, and their two sons resided in Spain, while his second wife, Ksenia, and their two children fled to Madrid in 2022.
Death
Alexander Getmansky passed away on April 1, 2023, in Kyiv, after battling a long illness. He was 63 years old. His funeral was held on April 3 in his hometown of Vysoke.
