Early Life and Military Service

Birth and Childhood

Mikhail Fedorovich Gryaznov was born on June 10, 1918, in the village of Kozlovka, Tomsk Governorate (now Tatar District, Novosibirsk Oblast). In 1923, his family relocated to the village of Trezvononovo (now Gryaznovo), Altai Krai.

Education and Career

After completing school, Gryaznov attended mechanization courses and worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm. In February 1940, he was conscripted into the Red Army.

World War II

Combat Operations

Upon the outbreak of World War II, Gryaznov was immediately deployed to the front. He served as a commander in the 163rd Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the 104th Rifle Division, 14th Army.

Heroic Battle

On July 6, 1941, Gryaznov's T-37 tank engaged a detachment of Finnish troops near Kandalaksha. When their ammunition was exhausted, Gryaznov and his driver, I. I. Ignatov, detonated their tank, taking out the surrounding enemy forces.

Honors and Awards

Hero of the Soviet Union

For his extraordinary bravery and self-sacrifice, Mikhail Fedorovich Gryaznov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on July 22, 1941.

Other Honors

In addition to the Hero of the Soviet Union star, Gryaznov was posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin. His name has been honored in streets, schools, and monuments throughout Russia.
