Childhood and Early Career
In the third grade, Sergei Kulchiy joined the football section in Gomel. He excelled and moved to a special class, often playing for a team two years older than him. At the age of 16, he joined the second division team "Gomselmash," where he played 20 matches and scored two goals in 1991.
Professional Club Career
From 1992 to 1994, Kulchiy played for "Traktor"/ "Fandok" Bobruisk in the Belarusian championship. He then moved to MPKC Mozyr, where he played from 1994 to 1996.
In 1996, he signed with Russian Premier League club CSKA Moscow, but after the head coach left, he joined Moscow's "Dynamo." He later played for "Shinnik" Yaroslavl in the first division, helping them reach the Premier League in 2001.
In 2005, he joined "Tom" Tomsk, where he stayed for several seasons before moving to "Rostov" in 2008. He also played for FC Krasnodar, "Siberia," and Kazakh club "Irtysh" Pavlodar, retiring at the age of 39.
International Career
Kulchiy debuted for the Belarusian national team in 1996 and became its record holder in 2009 with 102 or 101 caps (sources vary). He retired from the national team but later returned and played until 2012.
Coaching Career
Since 2014, Kulchiy has worked as a coach for the Belarusian national team. As of 2016, he joined the coaching staff of Dynamo-2 Moscow.
