Early Career in Uruguay and Argentina

Carlos Sánchez, a Uruguayan midfielder, began his professional career with Liverpool in Montevideo in 2003, remaining with the club until 2009. He then moved to Godoy Cruz in Argentina, where he quickly adapted and helped the team reach third place in the Clausura tournament in 2010, securing a berth in the Copa Libertadores 2011.

Success with River Plate

In 2011, Sánchez joined River Plate, which had been relegated from the Argentine Primera División for the first time in its history. Sánchez played a crucial role in River Plate's promotion back to the top flight in the 2011/12 season, scoring four goals in 34 matches. The following season, he scored six goals in 34 Primera División matches.

Loan to Puebla and Return to River Plate

Sánchez was initially part of River Plate's squad for the 2013/14 season, but after a match against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, he was loaned to Mexican club Puebla for a year. In Mexico, he became a key player for Puebla, scoring six goals in 26 league appearances. However, his absence prevented him from being part of River Plate's title-winning campaign in the Torneo Final 2014.

Continental Glory and Recognition

Upon his return to River Plate in 2014, Sánchez helped the team win the Copa Sudamericana and narrowly missed out on the Argentine championship. In 2015, he scored two goals in two matches against San Lorenzo in the Recopa Sudamericana, helping River Plate win the trophy for the first time. His performances culminated in being named South American Footballer of the Year in 2015.

International Debut and Notable Performances

Sánchez made his debut for the Uruguay national team in November 2014, providing an assist in a friendly match against Costa Rica. He played a significant role in Uruguay's Copa América campaign in 2015 and also featured in their qualifying matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
