Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Alexander Kuoppala, the Finnish maestro of rhythm guitar, first strummed his way into the world of music at the tender age of 10.

Initially drawn to the soulful melodies of jazz and blues, Kuoppala's musical journey took a heavier turn as he immersed himself in the thunderous sounds of W.A.S.P., Judas Priest, Manowar, and Ozzy Osbourne.

Joining Children of Bodom

A fateful encounter with drummer Jaska Raatikainen in 1995 led Kuoppala to join Children of Bodom, then known as Inearthed.

As the band's rhythm guitarist, he became an integral part of their melodic death metal sound, contributing to their debut album "Something Wild" in 1998.

Balancing Multiple Musical Pursuits

Concurrently with Children of Bodom, Kuoppala showcased his versatility by joining the disco and soul band Keytoes.

However, the demands of two bands proved too much, leading him to leave Keytoes in 1998 to focus on Children of Bodom's first tour. Two years later, he briefly returned to Keytoes, emphasizing the importance of mastering diverse musical styles.

Departure from Children of Bodom

In 2003, Children of Bodom's "Hate Crew Deathroll" tour took Kuoppala on a global scale, but it also marked a growing distance from the band.

In June of that year, he announced his departure to pursue personal goals, including starting a family. His last performance with the band was at the Tuska Open Air Festival in 2003.

Post-Children of Bodom Career

In 2006, Kuoppala lent his talents to Timo Rautiainen's solo album "Sarvivuori".

Today, he imparts his musical knowledge as a teacher at a music school in Espoo, Finland. As a father to two daughters, Venla and Jenna, Kuoppala balances his musical passions with the joys of family life.
