Biography of Alexander Zinchenko

Alexander Zinchenko is a Ukrainian political figure who was born into a family of a Soviet intelligence officer involved in the famous exchange of Francis Powers for Rudolf Abel. He began his political career in 1983, working in various Komsomol organizations, including the Central Committee of the Leninist Communist Youth Union of Ukraine (VLKSM). He held positions such as Head of the Propaganda and Agitation Department of the Central Committee of the VLKSM, and later became the Secretary of the Central Committee.

Zinchenko was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (united) from 1996 to 2003, and served as the First Deputy Chairman of the party from 1998. He became a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, known as the Verkhovna Rada, during the III and IV convocations, and held the position of Vice Speaker during the IV convocation. Additionally, he was the President of the television channel "Inter". However, in 2003, he left the Social Democratic Party (united) and resigned from his position as the channel's leader.

In the autumn of 2004, Zinchenko became the head of Viktor Yushchenko's electoral headquarters during the presidential elections. From January to September 2005, he served as the State Secretary (Head of the Presidential Secretariat). However, he resigned and accused Viktor Yushchenko's closest associates, such as Petro Poroshenko and Alexandra Tretiakova, of corruption. This led to a political crisis and the resignation of Yulia Tymoshenko's government.

During the parliamentary elections in 2006, Zinchenko led the list of the Party of Patriotic Forces of Ukraine (PPSU), which only received 0.1% of the votes. He was subsequently expelled from the PPSU on July 3, 2006. In October 2006, he was appointed as an advisor to Viktor Yushchenko on information policy.

The Presidium of the People's Union "Our Ukraine" (whose honorary chairman is Viktor Yushchenko) stated that Zinchenko, as an "irresponsible politician" who failed in his duties as the State Secretary, does not have the moral right to advise the head of state.
