Alexander Loskutov - Ukrainian Traumatologist

Alexander Loskutov is a renowned Ukrainian traumatologist, professor, and director of the Clinic at the Mechnikov Regional Hospital. He currently serves as the head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy. Loskutov is also the chairman of the Dnepropetrovsk Society of Orthopedic Traumatologists.

Education and Career

Alexander Loskutov completed his medical education at the Dnepropetrovsk Medical Institute. He specialized in traumatology and orthopedics and went on to pursue further training in the field. In 1982, he defended his candidate dissertation on the topic of "Multiple Fractures, Fracture Dislocations of the Tarsal Bones, and Their Treatment." In 1991, he obtained his doctorate in medicine with a dissertation on "Surgical Treatment of Old Injuries of the Ankle Joint."

Since 1991, Loskutov has been heading the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy. In 1992, he was awarded the title of professor. His scientific focus lies in the field of endoprosthetics and reconstructive joint surgery, as well as reconstructive surgery of the hand. He has authored 201 scientific papers and holds 34 inventions. Loskutov has also patented over ten personally developed prostheses.

Breakthroughs and Achievements

Alexander Loskutov shattered the stereotype that joint reconstruction surgeries are impossible for individuals over 85 years old. He successfully performed a joint operation on a 102-year-old woman, proving that age should not be a barrier to receiving necessary medical interventions.

Under Loskutov's guidance, one doctoral and five candidate dissertations have been completed. In recognition of his groundbreaking work, he received the State Award of Ukraine in the field of science and technology for the development and implementation of reconstructive and restorative joint operations in cases of joint injuries and orthopedic diseases in 1996. He was also honored as a Distinguished Scientist and Technologist of Ukraine in 1998.
