Early Life and Career

Alexander Vinter was born on December 20, 1972, in Hellerup, Denmark. From a young age, he discovered his passion for acting and decided to pursue it further. After graduating from a local high school, Vinter enrolled at the State Theatre School in Copenhagen, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Vinter began his film career with small roles in short films such as "Uroligt hjerte" (1996), "Netmesteren" (1998), and "Indianer" (2000). He also appeared in episodes of Danish television series, including "Skjulte Spor," "Rejseholdet," and "Hotellet."

Breakthrough and Rise to Prominence

In 2003, Vinter gained wider recognition on television for his role as Martin Christensen in the drama series "Forsvar." This performance was followed by a series of supporting roles in television series and short films, which he broke out of with his appearance in the historical drama "Viking Saga" in 2008.

The film about the conquests of Prince Oleg (Ken Vedsegaard) was well-received at the Bare Bones International Film & Music Festival, with the director nominated for "Best Full-Length Feature Film – Family." Vinter's subsequent work included the thriller "Deliver Us from Evil" (2009) and drama "Beautiful People" (2009), both of which received critical acclaim and awards recognition.

International Success

In 2011, Vinter starred in the family series "Ludvig & Julemanden," appearing in 24 episodes as Niels Glad. This was followed by significant roles in the thriller "The Reunion" (2012), which received three Danish Film Awards nominations, the drama "Sorrow and Joy" (2013), and the comedy series "Rita" (2012-2020), starring Mille Dinesen as a rebellious school teacher.

Vinter's career took a major turn when he moved to the United Kingdom and landed a role in the war drama "Home Fires" in 2015. Starring alongside British actors Claire Calbraith, Brian Fletcher, Frances Annis, and Samantha Bond, the series received high ratings.

Soon after, Vinter was cast as Kjartan in the historical epic "The Last Kingdom" (2015-2022) on Netflix and BBC Two. Alongside Alexander Dreymon, Millie Brady, Eliza Butterworth, and Emily Cox, Vinter delivered a strong performance, and the series earned an 8.5 rating on IMDb. Based on Bernard Cornwell's best-selling "Saxon Chronicles," the show depicts events in the 9th century.

Vinter then collaborated with Luc Besson on the 2017 sci-fi film "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," which featured a star-studded cast including Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Ethan Hawke, and Clive Owen. Despite its impressive roster of actors, the film was critically and commercially unsuccessful.

Recent Work and Future Projects

In 2018, Vinter joined the cast of the action-adventure reboot "Tomb Raider," which starred Alicia Vikander, Daniel Wu, and Hannah John-Kamen. It was a commercial success, grossing over $270 million worldwide and earning Golden Trailer Awards nominations.

Since then, Vinter has appeared in numerous British and Danish television productions, including the lead role of Thom Merrilin in the fantasy series "The Wheel of Time" (2021). Based on Robert Jordan's novel, the show follows the journey of magicians and sinister creatures in a fictional world. It received critical and audience acclaim, starring Rosamund Pike, Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski, and Sophie Okonedo.

Personal Life

Vinter is married to cosmetologist Lill Ostergaard, with whom he often shares photos on social media. He has two sons, Sylvester and Oliver, from his previous marriage to Henriette Fovian. Despite his divorce, Vinter remains an active father, often bringing his sons to red carpet events. Vinter is 6 feet tall (182 cm).

Current Projects

In 2022, Vinter continued to work on new projects, adding two horror films to his portfolio. "Moloch," a Dutch-produced thriller, and "1899," a British-German series that also stars Isabella Wei, Anton Lesser, and Emily Beecham, have both been well-received by audiences.
