Early Life and Football Career
Alfie Burden began his sporting journey at London's Arsenal Football Club as a youth squad player. However, a severe leg fracture resulting from a tackle forced him to retire from football at the age of 16.
Professional Snooker Debut
Burden made his professional snooker debut in 1994 and achieved his first major breakthrough in 1998 by reaching the main stage of the World Championships. In 2007, he again reached the main stage of the China Open, showcasing victories over Shokat Ali, Rod Lawler, and David Gray in the qualifying rounds. However, he faced defeat in the wild-card round against Chinese player Mei Xiwen.
Amateur World Championship Victory
In 2009, Burden became the first Englishman in 11 years to win the World Amateur Snooker Championship, defeating Igor Figueiredo of Brazil in the final with a score of 10-8. Coached by Nick Barrow, this victory paved the way for his return to the professional circuit the following season.
Management Change and Main Tour Success
Burden joined On Q Promotions, a management company that represents renowned players such as Jimmy White, Stephen Lee, Barry Hawkins, Gerard Greene, and Robert Milkins. Under the guidance of manager Paul Mount, he secured a four-year contract with the company.
Maximum Break Achievement
On October 11, 2016, during the qualifying round of the English Open, Burden showcased his exceptional skills by compiling a maximum break of 147 points in the sixth frame against Daniel Wells, despite ultimately losing the match 3-4.
