Alfredo Ramos Castilo - Brazilian football player and coach
Alfredo Ramos Castilo was a Brazilian football player and coach, known for his role as a central defender. He represented the Brazil national team from 1953 to 1956, participating in two South American Championships in 1953 and 1956, as well as the Oswaldo Cruz Cup.
Early Career
Alfredo Ramos began his career at Santos FC and later joined Sao Paulo FC in 1950. He played for Sao Paulo FC for 7 years, appearing in a total of 315 matches, with 86 victories, 59 draws, and 70 defeats. In 1953, he was part of the Sao Paulo FC team that won the Sao Paulo State Championship.
National Team
Alfredo Ramos represented the Brazilian national team from 1953 to 1956. Although he was selected for the 1954 FIFA World Cup, he did not make any appearances on the field.
Later Years and Coaching Career
Alfredo Ramos concluded his playing career at Corinthians, where he played for two years and appeared in 33 matches, scoring one goal. However, his playing time at Corinthians was cut short due to a leg injury he sustained in a match against his former club, Sao Paulo FC, on October 20, 1957. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Ramos retired from professional football in 1959.
After retiring as a player, Alfredo Ramos pursued a career in coaching. He worked as a coach for Corinthians in 1962 and Sao Paulo FC in 1972. Under his guidance, Sao Paulo FC played 46 matches, winning 23, drawing 15, and losing only 4. However, two disappointments for Ramos as a coach were the defeat in the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores against Argentinean club Independiente and the final match of the state championship against Palmeiras, which ended in a 0-0 draw. A victory in that match would have secured the championship for Sao Paulo FC.
During his career, Alfredo Ramos achieved several accolades, including being a champion of the Sao Paulo State Championship in 1953 and winning the Oswaldo Cruz Cup in 1955.
