Aliagha Agayev: A Legendary Actor
Early Life and EducationAliagha Agayev was born in Baku on March 21, 1913. Despite losing his father at a young age, he pursued education, graduating from a vocational school in 1930. After working at a shipyard, he enrolled in the factory's drama club where he made his acting debut as Haji Gara in Mirza Fatali Akhundov's comedy.
Theatrical Career
In 1936, Agayev joined the Children's Workers' Theater, now the Baku Junior Spectator Theater. His first professional role was as Jacques in "Children of Captain Grant." He later became a versatile actor, performing in both theater and film.
Cinematic Breakthrough
Agayev's fame extended beyond Azerbaijan through his iconic role as Meshadi Ibad in the film "Which One Will I Marry?" based on Uzeyir Hajibeyov's operetta.
Azerbaijani Academic Drama Theater
In 1961, Agayev joined the Azerbaijani Academic Drama Theater, where he played Abysh Surkhayevich in Shikhali Gurbanov's "So That's How It Is." He remained with the theater for 22 years.
Honors and Legacy
Agayev received the title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1945 and People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1954. Known for his jovial spirit, he passed away on November 3, 1983, while sharing a joke with friends. Agayev is buried in Baku's Yasamal Cemetery.
Posthumous Recognition
In 1959, Agayev was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. His exceptional contributions to Azerbaijani theater and film continue to be celebrated and remembered.
