Early Life and Education

Alty Karliev was born on January 6, 1909, in the village of Babadaykhan in what is now Turkmenistan. He graduated from the Turkmen National Studio in Ashgabat in 1929 and the directorial department of the Baku Theater College (now Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts) in 1931.

Career in Theater and Film

Karliev began his career as an actor in 1931 and became a director in the late 1930s. From 1931 to 1956, he worked at the Turkmen Drama Theater (later renamed the I.V. Stalin Turkmen Drama Theater and then the Mollanepes Turkmen Drama Theater) as an actor, director, chief director, and director.

Main Roles in Films

Karliev made his film debut in 1935 and continued to appear in movies for many years. He is known for his roles in films such as "Dursun" (1940), for which he received his first Stalin Prize, and "The Distant Bride" (1948), for which he earned his second Stalin Prize.

Directorial Career

Karliev also directed numerous films and plays. He served as the chief director of the Turkmen Opera and Ballet Theater from 1941 to 1953 and later as the director and chief director of the "Turkmenfilm" studio from 1957 to 1960.

Recognition and Honors

Karliev was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1955. He also received two Stalin Prizes (second degree), the State Prize of the Turkmen SSR, and numerous other accolades for his contributions to theater and cinema.

Personal Life and Legacy

Karliev married Annagul Annakuliyeva, a renowned opera singer, in 1924. He passed away in Ashgabat on December 11, 1973. Karliev's legacy lives on through his films, plays, and the inspiration he provided to countless aspiring actors and directors.
