Alvan Adams is an American professional basketball player. He was born in Lawrence, Kansas. He gained recognition while playing for the University of Oklahoma team. Adams made his mark in the 1973-1974 season by achieving 21 double-doubles in 26 games, equaling the team record previously set by Garfield Heard in 27 games. However, his record was surpassed by Blake Griffin on February 14, 2009.

Adams also holds the distinction of being one of three players in the university team's history to score at least 40 points and secure 20 rebounds in a single game. He achieved this feat first, followed by Wayman Tisdale in 1983, and then by Blake Griffin on February 14, 2009.

In 1975, Adams was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. He quickly became involved in the team's intense 1975 season, where they reached the NBA Finals after an impressive playoff run. That same year, Adams was selected to the All-Star team and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. He was also included in the All-NBA Rookie Team.

On February 22, 1977, Adams recorded a triple-double in a game against the Buffalo Braves. He scored 47 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, and made 12 assists. Only four players in NBA history have scored more than 46 points and secured more than 16 rebounds in a single game.

Unlike many professional athletes who frequently change teams, Adams spent his entire career playing for the Phoenix Suns. He retired from the sport in 1988, holding several franchise records for games played, minutes played, rebounds, and steals. He ranks second in points scored and field goal attempts, third in assists, and fourth in blocks.
