Biography of Luis Flores

Luis Flores, born on April 11, 1981, in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, is a professional Dominican basketball player who began his career with the Golden State Warriors in the 2004-2005 season. Over the years, Flores has played for 16 teams in 11 countries, including Israel, Russia, Ukraine, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Venezuela, and several others. He admits that he learned something new in each league he played in.

Early Life and Education

Although Luis was born in the Dominican Republic, he spent most of his childhood in the United States. He lived in Washington Heights, New York City, one of the largest Latino neighborhoods, with his parents. He played basketball for Norman Thomas High School and later attended Rutgers University, where he also joined the basketball team. However, it was at Manhattan College where he fully showcased his talent, becoming the most successful player in the history of the basketball team with an average of 22.7 points per game. He was twice named the Most Valuable Player of the local university league and the Player of the Year for the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Interestingly, Flores became only the eighth player in the more than 70-year history of the Haggerty Award to receive it more than once.

Professional Career

In the 2004 NBA Draft, Flores was selected in the second round by the Houston Rockets with the 55th overall pick. He was immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks, and then again to the Golden State Warriors. Despite a promising start to his NBA career, things did not work out for Luis. After playing 15 games for the Golden State Warriors, he moved to the Denver Nuggets and then to the New Orleans Hornets. Soon after, Flores set his sights on Europe, where his experience playing in the NBA made him highly sought after. He played for the Italian teams BT Roseto and Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia. In 2007, he returned to the Dominican Republic to play for the Cocolos de San Pedro de Macoris and then spent the rest of the year with Olympias Patras in Greece. Flores also played in Israel for Hapoel Holon in the 2008-2009 season and Hapoel Eliat in 2013. In 2009, he represented the Russian club Krasnye Krylia, and in 2010, he joined the Ukrainian team Donetsk. In 2012, he also played for Kyiv's Budivelnyk.

Throughout his career, Luis Flores has represented the Dominican Republic national basketball team at the international level. He has won silver medals with the team at the 2003 Pan American Games and the Centrobasket tournament in the same year.
