Early Life and NBA CareerLuke Walton, son of Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton, was born on March 28, 1980. He played as a small forward and was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2003 NBA Draft. Walton played for the Lakers and won three NBA championships with the team during the 2008-2009, 2009-2010, and 2011-2012 seasons.
Coaching Career
Golden State Warriors Assistant and Interim Head CoachIn 2014, Walton joined the Golden State Warriors as an assistant coach under Steve Kerr. In 2015, Kerr stepped away to recover from back surgery, and Walton was appointed as the Warriors' interim head coach. Under his leadership, the team set an NBA record with 24 consecutive wins starting the 2015-2016 season.
Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach
On April 29, 2016, Walton was announced as the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. He signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the team. However, after three seasons and a record of 98 wins and 148 losses, Walton and the Lakers mutually agreed to part ways in April 2019.
Sacramento Kings Head Coach
On April 14, 2019, Walton was introduced as the head coach of the Sacramento Kings. During his two seasons with the team, he led them to a record of 68 wins and 93 losses.
