Early Life and Education
Nadine Dorries was born in the United Kingdom and pursued higher education at University College London. In 1997, she graduated with a degree in Economics and Statistics. Subsequently, she embarked on a career in market research.
Political Career
Dorries's political journey began with her affiliation with the Conservative Party during her university years. In 2009, she was elected to the local council. Her political ascent continued in 2015, when she was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cannock Chase, Staffordshire.
Committee Work and Early Ministerial Roles
From 2015 to 2017, Dorries served on the House of Commons' Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy Committee. Following the formation of Johnson's first cabinet in July 2019, she was appointed as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Mental Health.
Impressive Electoral Success
In the December 2019 general election, Dorries secured an impressive victory in her constituency. With 68.3% of the votes, she significantly outperformed her Labour rival, Anne Hobbs, who garnered only 25.4%.
Ministerial Appointments
On February 13, 2020, Dorries was appointed as the Paymaster General and Minister for the Cabinet Office in Johnson's second cabinet. She concurrently became the Chair of the Conservative Party.
