Biography of Amelia Lily Oliver

Amelia Lily Oliver, an English pop singer, was born on October 16, 1994, in Nunthorpe, a suburb of the major port city of Middlesbrough. Her parents are Aranka Bradley and Barry Oliver. Despite her young age, Lily is insulin-dependent and suffers from type 1 diabetes. She was diagnosed with this condition at the age of three, but she has proven that it is possible to live a full life and achieve success in the entertainment industry.

Lewis Bradley, a British musical theater actor who became famous after the television show "Any Dream Will Do," is Amelia's older stepbrother. Amelia received an education at Teesside High School, a private school located near Eaglescliffe in northeast England. Despite attending a private school, Lily had to work part-time, earning £4.90 per hour at a garden center in Nunthorpe. She has stated that she hated this job.

In an interview with The Sun, Lily revealed that she had endured bullying from classmates for over five years at her previous school. She had difficulty making friends and would often come home in tears. She believed that she was targeted by bullies because she looked and dressed differently from most girls. At one point, Lily even considered becoming a nun and living in a monastery.

The X Factor Journey

Prior to auditioning for "The X Factor," Lily uploaded cover versions of famous songs, including "Someone like You," to her YouTube channel. One of her covers has since garnered over a million views. In early 2011, Lily auditioned for "The X Factor" in Liverpool. She performed "Piece of My Heart" by Erma Franklin and impressed all four judges, who praised her incredible voice, especially considering she was only 16 years old.

After successfully progressing through the training stages, Lily was unexpectedly eliminated by her mentor, Kelly Rowland, on the first week of live shows. Despite her elimination, Lily continued to perform in clubs. However, shortly before the sixth live show, it was announced that contestant Frankie Cocozza had been disqualified. The viewers were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite eliminated contestant to return to the show. Lily received 48.8% of the votes and made a triumphant comeback, performing "The Show Must Go On." Eventually, Lily reached the final alongside Marcus Collins and the group "Little Mix," and finished in third place with 26.5% of the public vote.

Post-"The X Factor" Success

Although she did not win the competition, Lily left "The X Factor" with a substantial prize – a contract worth half a million pounds and three albums with Xenomania, a subsidiary label of Sony. She is currently signed to both Xenomania and Sony Music. In September 2012, her highly successful debut single, "You Bring Me Joy," was released. The music video premiered on July 30, 2012, and the single immediately reached the top spot on the UK Singles Chart, holding it for four days. Within the first week of its release, over 50,000 copies were sold on iTunes. In December of the same year, it was announced that Lily's debut album would be released on May 6, 2013.
