Biography: Lebanese Political Figure and Prime Minister
EducationTaqi ad-Din as-Sulh received a law degree from the Lebanese University. He continued his studies at Cairo University and the American University of Beirut. Subsequently, he pursued postgraduate work at the University of Lausanne and international public law at the Academy of International Law at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
Political Career
From 1960 to 1996, as-Sulh served as a member of the Lebanese National Assembly. In April 1973, he was appointed Prime Minister of Lebanon.
Resignation
As-Sulh's tenure as Prime Minister was short-lived. In June 1973, he resigned in the face of opposition from President Suleiman Franjieh and Sunni leaders who refused to recognize his appointment.
Retirement
Following his resignation, as-Sulh retired from politics in 1996. He remained in retirement until his passing.
