Biography of Amir Drori

Amir Drori was an Israeli military commander who achieved significant accomplishments throughout his career. He gained recognition for his leadership during the Yom Kippur War in 1973, where he commanded the Golani Infantry Brigade. Under his command, the brigade successfully defended Mount Hermon, which had been captured by Syrian forces at the beginning of the war.

After his success in the Yom Kippur War, Drori went on to command the Northern District of Israel's military forces. It was during this time that he led the invasion of Lebanon in 1982. His strategic expertise and leadership skills contributed to the success of the operation.

In addition to his role as a commander, Drori also served as the Deputy Chief of the General Staff. His experience and dedication made him a valuable asset to the Israeli military.

Amir Drori's military career was marked by numerous achievements and accolades. In 1960, as an officer in the Golani Brigade, he was awarded an honorary medal for his role in the Taufik operation. Later on, from 1985 to 1986, he assumed the position of Commander of the Israeli Ground Forces. Following that, he took charge of the Army's operational management from 1986 to 1987.

After retiring from the military, Drori became the head of the Antiquities and Archaeological Excavations Department in Israel. He was passionate about preserving the country's ancient treasures and contributing to archaeological research.

Tragically, on March 12, 2005, Drori passed away from a heart attack after losing consciousness during a challenging hiking expedition in the Negev desert called the "Nachal Hava" trail. His untimely death was a great loss to the Israeli military and the field of archaeology. Amir Drori's legacy as a distinguished military commander and protector of Israel's cultural heritage lives on.
