Amir Weintraub - Israeli Tennis Champion

Amir Weintraub was born on September 16, 1986, in Rehovot, Israel. He is an Israeli professional tennis player and the current champion of Israel. In May 2012, Weintraub reached his career-best ranking of 161 in the singles category on the list of the world's best tennis players. In the doubles category, his best ranking was achieved on November 3, 2008, when he reached the 264th position. As of 2012, Weintraub is the second-best Israeli tennis player, second only to David 'Dudi' Sela.

Early Career

Amir Weintraub turned professional in 2005 and quickly made a name for himself in the Israeli tennis scene. In December 2005, he reached the finals of the Israeli Tennis Championship, where he lost in a three-set match against Dudi Sela. However, in December 2010, Weintraub emerged victorious in the championship, defeating Sela with a score of 7–6, 3–6, 7–6.

Grand Slam Debut and Davis Cup

In January 2011, Weintraub participated in his first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open, where he was eliminated in the qualifying round. During the same month, he was selected to represent the Israeli Davis Cup team. He became the second player in his team for the match against Poland. In March 2011, Weintraub won his first Davis Cup match against Jerzy Janowicz. On September 16, 2011, he secured a victory in a four-set match against Milos Raonic during the Davis Cup, leveling the score between the Israeli and Canadian teams at 1-1. However, he later lost the deciding match against Vasek Pospisil, which took place on September 18.

Return to the World Group

In September 2012, Weintraub participated in the Davis Cup against the Japanese team. He won the first match against Tatsuma Ito and the deciding match against Go Soeda. Despite Soeda being ranked 170 positions higher than Weintraub, it did not help him change the course of the four-set match. Following this performance, the Israeli team returned to the World Group of the Davis Cup after a two-year absence. As of September 17, 2012, Weintraub is ranked 214th in the singles category and 331st in the doubles category among the world's best tennis players.
