Early Life and Education

Levan Danielia, a Georgian Hero of the Soviet Union, was born on April 16, 1923, in Poti, Georgia. His father was a laborer, and Levan completed five years of schooling before joining the Red Army in 1942.

Heroic Exploits

During World War II, Danielia served as a machine-gunner in the 2nd Tank Battalion of the 53rd Guards Tank Brigade. On January 20, 1945, his tank platoon engaged in reconnaissance ahead of the main forces. They successfully forced the Prosna River and entered the town of Wierzuszów, Poland.

Crossing into Germany, they destroyed two enemy tanks but faced a counterattack from an anti-tank artillery battery. Danielia's tank was struck by two shells, killing the commander and driver. Despite being wounded, he took control of the burning tank and directed it towards the enemy gun, destroying it. Danielia then managed to extinguish the flames and guide his tank out of the conflict.

Recognition and Legacy

For his extraordinary bravery, Danielia was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on April 10, 1945. He was demobilized in 1945 and returned to Poti, where he worked in a flour mill. Following his death on February 6, 1979, he was remembered as a valiant hero in the defense of his country.
