Early Life and Military Service

Konstantin Astafirov was born on August 11, 1915, in Astrakhan, Russia. After completing six years of schooling, he worked in the Krasnovodsk Seaport. In 1936-1938, he served in the Red Army.

World War II

In March 1942, Astafirov was recalled to the Red Army. He joined the 545th Rifle Regiment of the 389th Rifle Division and participated in combat on the Transcaucasian and North Caucasian Fronts.

Bravery in Combat

Keслерово Offensive (May 1943)

During the Battle of Keслерово, Astafirov served as a radio operator. When his entire radio station crew was killed in a mortar attack, he operated the station single-handedly for three days, maintaining vital communication with the division headquarters.

Zozovka Battle (January 1944)

Under heavy fire from enemy tanks and artillery, Astafirov ensured communication between the 389th Rifle Division headquarters and its units, preventing the division's encirclement.

Path to the Order of Glory

Order of Glory 3rd Class (February 1944)

For his actions at Zozovka, Astafirov was awarded the Order of Glory 3rd Class.

Order of Glory 2nd Class (August 1944)

On the night of July 19, 1944, Astafirov crossed the Western Bug River and established communication with the command. He later retrieved the body of his fallen regimental commander.

Order of Glory 1st Class

Southern Poland (January 1945)

In a difficult mountain and forest terrain, Astafirov provided unwavering radio communication during the breakthrough of German defenses near Raków. He also killed nine enemy soldiers in close combat.

Sułeiów Defensive (June 1945)

Astafirov was awarded the highest honor, the Order of Glory 1st Class, for his bravery in repelling enemy counterattacks near Sułeiów.

Post-War Life

After his demobilization in 1945, Astafirov worked in a bakery in Krymsk, Krasnodar Krai. He passed away on February 11, 1997.
