Childhood and Early Life
Alexander Ivanovich Labuzhsky was born in the village of Ostrovnoe, Omsk Oblast, Russia, in 1919. His family were peasants. In 1930, they moved to Orenburg, where Labuzhsky completed eight years of schooling and then attended a vocational school.
Pre-War Work Experience
After graduating from vocational school, Labuzhsky worked at a locomotive repair plant. From 1941 to 1942, he was an electrician at the Orenburg Oil and Oil Plant.
Military Service
When war broke out, Labuzhsky volunteered for the Red Army and served as a sniper, machine gunner, mortar operator, and sapper. He distinguished himself in battle, earning multiple awards for his bravery.
Heroic Exploit at Buzhenin
In 1945, while fighting near the Polish town of Buzhenin, Labuzhsky's sapper unit faced the task of preventing the Germans from blowing up a strategically important bridge over the Warta River. Under heavy enemy fire, they seized the bridge, and Labuzhsky personally approached the burning wires and cut them, averting an explosion.
Post-War Life
After the war, Labuzhsky joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union, the Order of Lenin, and the Medal "For Courage."
Legacy
Alexander Ivanovich Labuzhsky is remembered as a courageous and dedicated soldier whose heroic actions helped ensure the safety of his comrades and the success of the Soviet Army.
