A Dirty LifestyleAmou Haji, an 80-year-old Iranian man, has earned the title of the "Filthiest Man in the World" due to his refusal to engage in basic hygiene practices for the past six decades. Proudly sharing his unusual lifestyle, Haji revealed that he has not taken a bath or washed himself in any way for over 60 years. Living a homeless life in Iran, Haji does not have an official address and resides in isolation near the Dejgah village in the southern part of the country.
A Life of Seclusion
Haji's decision to live a life of seclusion and abandon cleanliness came after experiencing emotional stress in his youth. Since then, he has completely disregarded the benefits of civilization and stopped bathing. Moreover, Haji firmly believes that if he were to take a shower one day, he would immediately fall ill or encounter something unfortunate. Although his superstition remains unfathomable to many, it is a personal choice that Haji has embraced.
A Dirty Diet
Haji primarily sustains himself by consuming rotten porcupine meat and whatever else he can find. He is also a heavy smoker, resorting to smoking dried animal feces when he cannot find cigarettes. His sleeping arrangements consist of a self-dug hole in the ground that resembles a grave, which the locals have even lined with bricks. Cleanliness, in any form, is something Haji simply cannot tolerate. He insists that water, food, clothing, and everything he uses must either be dirty or decayed.
A Strange Love for Dirt
The reason behind Haji's peculiar affection for filth remains a mystery. Many believe that psychologists would be able to shed light on his behavior. However, Haji has no intention of seeking or accepting psychological assistance, as he is content with the lifestyle he has chosen. Occasionally, Haji desires to appear presentable and groomed. To achieve this, he uses an old car mirror, looking into it without visible fear. He attempts to tidy his hair, shake off any particularly large clumps of dirt from his rags, which serve as his garments, and straighten his posture, allowing him to feel more confident.
The Filthiest Man Alive
Amou Haji can rightfully be considered the "Filthiest Man in the World," a title he proudly claims, although no official measurements have been taken to validate his claim. While there is knowledge of another individual, an Indian named Kailash Singh, who abstained from bathing or entering a bathroom for 38 years, this figure pales in comparison to Haji's remarkable "dirty streak" of over 60 years.
