Biography of Amr Diab

Amr Abdel Basset Abdel Aziz Diab, better known as Amr Diab, was born in 1961 in Port Said, Egypt. His father held a high position in the shipbuilding industry, while his mother taught French. It was thanks to his father that Amr was able to experience singing in front of an audience at a young age. At the age of 6, he performed the Egyptian anthem on the national holiday and received a guitar as a prize from the governor. It was then that he decided to become a big star in the music industry.

Amr Diab studied at The Academy of Arts in Cairo, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in music. His first album, "Ya Tareeq" (O Road), was released in 1983, followed by his second album, "Ghanny Men Albak" (Sing From Your Heart) in 1985. Although his music was well-received in Egypt, international success was still to come. In 1988, Amr Diab released "Mayyal" (In Love), which showcased a unique blend of Arabic and Western melodies that appealed to a wide range of listeners. This album marked his breakthrough on the international stage and earned him the title "Father of Mediterranean Music."

Throughout his career, Amr Diab continued to release successful albums, including "Shawaana" (Missing You) in 1989, "Matkhafeesh" (Don't Worry) in 1990, and "W Ylomoony" (And They Blame Me) in 1994. He sings in Arabic, as well as English and French. One of his most popular songs, "Habibi" from the album "Nour el Ein" (Light of the Eye) in 1996, gained immense popularity not only in Egypt but also in France, India, Latin America, and South Africa.

Amr Diab's album "Amarein" (Two Moons) released in 1999 is considered his best work to date. He continued to release albums in the new millennium, including "Tamally Maak" (Always With You) in 2000, "Aktar Wahed" (The Most One) in 2001, and "Allem Alby" (Teach My Heart) in 2003. He also ventured into music videos, becoming the first Arab singer to produce music videos for his songs.

In addition to his music career, Amr Diab had a presence in the film industry. He appeared alongside Omar Sharif in the film "Deahk We La'ab" (Laughter and Fun), which was showcased at the Egyptian Film Festival in 1993. He also had several roles in TV series.

Amr Diab has been married twice. His first marriage was to Sherine Rida in 1989, and they had a daughter named Nour in 1990. He later married Zena Ashoor, and they have three children together - twins Abdullah and Kenzy, born in 1999, and daughter Jana, born in 2001.
