Amy and John Bruney: Jumping Rope Record Holders on a Bed of Nails

At first glance, there may not seem to be anything supernatural about the record set by this American couple – a nearly 60-kilogram woman jumping rope on a board lying on the chest of a strong man... However, if you know that the board, which is nailed down with three thousand nails, is facing outwards, then the whole spectacle takes on a slightly different shade. Amy and John Bruney are a married couple from Fremont, Indiana.

The Origin of the Idea

Later, when they had already made it into the Guinness World Records and became somewhat famous, John told journalists that the idea for this stunt came to him. Amy's reaction was quite unique – instead of dissuading her husband from the dangerous attraction, she agreed quite easily, adding that if he was crazy enough to ask her to jump on a board with nails, she was ready. And soon a board was prepared, with three thousand hefty nails hammered into it. They didn't rehearse, only Amy practiced jumping rope a little, but they held off on the nail spectacle until the actual show – three thousand sharp nails look too dangerous. As for John, he trained in a special way, somewhat torturing himself and thus getting used to the pain in his chest and stomach. Later, he told his wife, "Keep jumping, no matter what sounds come from under the board."

The World Record

Their first record – 117 jumps – was set several years ago in California, which was enough for a world record at the time, but Amy and John did not stop there. Over the years, Amy jumped rope for longer and longer, and the three thousand nails seemed to hurt her husband's trained chest and stomach less. It is worth noting that John Bruney is a pastor at Zion Missionary Church; he also works as a trainer and motivational speaker, aiming to cultivate strong individuals.

John's Other Feats

John has already demonstrated various strength records to his congregation and others, such as tearing chains with his bare hands, tearing a phone book, and driving nails with his bare hands. And he recently set his first world record by pulling a 14-ton truck for one mile, taking 1 hour and 36 minutes to complete this challenging event. Event organizers consistently caution spectators not to attempt such tricks on their own, as even though they may seem simple to perform, they require special skills and training.

Recognition and Fame

The names of John and Amy Bruney will likely soon appear in the pages of the famous Guinness World Records book – they are the couple who set the record for jumping rope on a board with nails, lying on the chest and stomach of a person.
