Ana Ortiz is an American actress and singer, best known for her role as Hilda Suarez, the older sister of the main character in the popular ABC series 'Ugly Betty.' This role earned her an 'Alma' award for 'Best Supporting Actress.' Ortiz was born in Manhattan, New York, to Angel L. Ortiz, a former member of the Philadelphia City Council, and his Irish wife. As a child, Ana dreamed of becoming a ballerina and studied ballet for eight years. However, she had to abandon this dream due to the physical pain it caused her.

Transition to Singing and Acting

Ana shifted her focus to singing and received training at the prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York. She later enrolled in the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Ortiz made her professional stage debut in the local theater production of 'Dangerous Liaisons.' She went on to perform in the European tour of the popular musical 'Hair,' the local production of 'Dog Lady and the Cuban Swimmer,' and the renowned South Coast Repertory Theater's show 'References to Salvador Dalí Make Me Hot.' She joined the theater group LAByrinth and appeared in the off-Broadway play 'In Arabia, We'd All Be Kings,' directed by Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman.
