Anatolii Matios: A Comprehensive Biography
Early Life and EducationAnatolii Matios was born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, in 1966. He completed his secondary education in 1984 and then attended the Chernivtsi Music College. From 1988 to 1990, he served in the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union. In 1997, he graduated from Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University with a degree in law.
Career in the Prosecutor's Office
Matios began working in the prosecutor's office in 1997 as an assistant prosecutor in Chernivtsi. He subsequently held various positions, including senior investigator in the Chernivtsi city prosecutor's office, senior investigator in the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor's office, and senior prosecutor in the Office of Supervision for Compliance with Laws by Internal Affairs and Tax Police in the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Service in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)
In 2008, Matios was appointed head of the SBU in Lviv Oblast. He later became head of the SBU in Odesa Oblast in 2008-2009. From 2009-2010, he served as first deputy head of the SBU's Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime.
Return to the Prosecutor's Office
In late 2010, Matios was assigned to the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine as an advisor to the chairman. He was later appointed deputy head of the Main Control Office of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, where he served until 2014.
On June 26, 2014, Matios was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine and head of the Main Directorate for Procedural Guidance in Criminal Proceedings and Oversight of Law Enforcement in the Military Sphere. Two months later, he became Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine.

2005: Awarded the "Gratitude for Conscientious Service in the Prosecutor's Office" badge
2007: Awarded the honorary title of "Honored Lawyer of Ukraine"
Other Notable EventsIn 2007, Matios initiated criminal proceedings against Ukrainian Minister of Justice Oleksandr Lavrynovych.
In 2008, Matios sanctioned the arrest of corrupt judge Ihor Zvarych.
In 2016, Matios announced his intention to resign but ultimately remained in office.
Family and Financial Status
Matios is the younger brother of writer Maria Matios. He is married to Iryna Barakh. According to his electronic declaration for 2015, Matios owns several properties and vehicles. His annual salary as prosecutor was 410,000 hryvnia (approximately $15,500).

In November 2018, Russia imposed sanctions against 322 Ukrainian citizens, including Anatolii Matios.
