Biography of Acting Mayor of Zaporizhzhia

Anatoliy Kurtev is a Ukrainian politician who has served as the Acting Mayor of Zaporizhzhia since 2021.

Early Life and Education

Born in 1974, Kurtev graduated from Zaporizhzhia State Medical University in 1998, specializing in pediatrics. He pursued further education, graduating from Classical Private University with degrees in law (2015) and management (2020).

Medical and Managerial Career

Kurtev's career began as a morgue attendant at the Zaporizhzhia Regional Department of Healthcare. Subsequently, from 2004 to 2013, he held various positions within the Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination, including physician intern, forensic medical examiner, and head of the organizational and methodological department. He also served as deputy head of the bureau and head of the "Levanevskiy" cemetery before becoming the acting head and head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination from 2016 to 2021.

Political Career

Kurtev's political journey started with his election to the Zaporizhzhia City Council as a member of the UKROP party. In 2020, he joined the Servant of the People party and became a member of the city council. He was appointed Secretary of the City Council in April 2020, but was dismissed by then-Mayor Volodymyr Buryak in June 2020. However, he was reinstated in July 2020. Following Buryak's resignation in 2021, Kurtev became the Acting Mayor of Zaporizhzhia.
