Early Career
André Gomes, a renowned Portuguese midfielder, began his football journey within the ranks of Portuguese giants FC Porto. He showcased his talent in the 2008/09 season while playing for Pasteleira's academy, before spending the 2009-2011 period honing his skills with Boavista's youth team. In 2011, he became part of Benfica's youth setup.
Debut for Benfica
Gomes made his senior debut for Benfica on July 28, 2012, in a friendly match against Gil Vicente. He initially played for the club's B team in the 2012/13 season, featuring in nine matches and scoring four goals. His official debut for the main Benfica team occurred on October 18 in a cup tie against Freamunde. Just nine days later, he marked his league debut against Gil Vicente, making an unforgettable impact by scoring a goal. Throughout the 2012/13 season, Gomes accumulated seven league appearances and a single goal.
Valencia and Barcelona
On June 13, 2015, Valencia secured Gomes' services from Benfica for a transfer fee of €15 million, signing him to a contract expiring in 2020. His stay at Valencia was relatively brief, as Barcelona came calling in 2016. The Catalan giants paid a substantial €35 million fee (with an additional €20 million in potential bonuses) to acquire his services, handing him a five-year contract.
International Career
Gomes represented Portugal at various youth levels before earning his first call-up to the senior team in February 2013. Despite not making his debut on that occasion, he went on to become a regular for the Seleção das Quinas.
