Early Life and Education

Ildikó Borbély Bocskor was born on August 11, 1978, in Berehovo, Zakarpattia Oblast. She has Ukrainian citizenship.

Bocskor graduated with a degree in English from the Hungarian Philology Department of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute in 2002. She later pursued further studies at the University of Budapest.

Academic Career

Bocskor taught English at the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute named after Ferenc Rákóczi II. In 2013, she obtained her doctorate in Historical Sciences from the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Political Career

In 2014, Bocskor was elected as a Member of the European Parliament from the Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Union party. She represents the interests of the Hungarian population of Zakarpattia.

Bocskor is the first Ukrainian citizen to serve as a member of the European Parliament. As an MEP, she has focused on issues affecting the Hungarian community in Zakarpattia.

Accusations and Controversy

In 2014, Taras Osavlenko, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament from the Svoboda party, requested the Security Service of Ukraine to investigate Bocskor's activities for possible espionage.

In 2020, Bocskor's data was added to the "Myrotvorets" website, a database that has been criticized for exposing personal information and targeting political opponents. Following this, the Hungarian European Commissioner, Olivér Várhelyi, demanded that Ukraine shut down the "Myrotvorets" website.
