Early Life and Political BeginningsDelcy Rodríguez was born on May 18, 1969, in Caracas, Venezuela. Her father, Jorge Antonio Rodríguez, was the founder of Venezuela's Socialist League, and her brother, Jorge Jesús Rodríguez, served as vice president of the country and mayor of Caracas.
Political Career under Hugo Chávez
During the presidency of Hugo Chávez, Rodríguez held several positions, including:
- Director of International Affairs for the Ministry of Energy and Mining (2003)
- Vice Minister for European Affairs (2005)
- Minister for Presidential Affairs (February-August 2006)- General Coordinator for the Vice President of Venezuela (2007)
Rise to Prominence
From 2013 to 2014, Rodríguez served as Minister of Popular Power for Communication and Information, followed by a stint as Foreign Minister from 2014 to 2017. In 2017, she was elected to the National Constituent Assembly and became its president.
Vice President of Venezuela
On June 14, 2018, President Nicolás Maduro appointed Rodríguez as the Vice President of Venezuela. She also became the chief of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN).
