Andreas Kisser: The Shredding Force Behind Sepultura
Born on August 24, 1968, in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, Andreas Kisser is the fiery lead guitarist of the legendary metal band Sepultura. His journey to rock stardom began in an unusual way.
Early Days
Before joining forces with Max Cavalera, Kisser served as an administrator for a traveling theater group. He initially came to Sepultura as a guitar technician for Cavalera but soon found himself taking on the mantle of lead guitarist in 1987 after the departure of Jairo Guedz.
Progressive Sounds
Kisser's arrival marked a turning point for Sepultura, as he injected a progressive element into their sound, particularly from the album "Schizophrenia" onward. Having studied classical guitar for several years, Kisser brought a refined technique to Sepultura's heavy riffing.

According to Allmusic, Kisser ranks among the most original and respected guitarists in metal. His trademark style includes soaring solos, intricate melodies, and an unwavering dedication to his craft.
Early Instruments
Initially, Kisser favored Charvel and Jackson guitars. However, he has since transitioned primarily to Fender Stratocasters while still occasionally using Jackson models live.
Metallica Audition and Roadrunner United
In 1992, Kisser auditioned to fill in as Metallica's temporary guitarist while James Hetfield recovered from a serious burn injury. Although he did not secure the role, it showcased his versatility and talent. Later, Kisser contributed to three songs on the "Roadrunner United" album: "The Enemy," "Baptized in the Redemption," and "No Mas Control."
Post-Cavalera Leadership
After Max Cavalera's departure, Kisser and drummer Igor Cavalera emerged as the creative powerhouses in Sepultura. In late 2008, Kisser joined the supergroup HAIL, which continues to tour and record.
Solo Album
In 2009, Kisser released his solo album, "Hubris I & II," which received positive reception in Europe. It showcased his versatility and ability to navigate various musical landscapes.
Personal Life
Kisser is happily married to Patricia Perissinotto Kisser and has three children: Giulia, Johan, and Enzo. He is also an avid football fan and supports the São Paulo FC team.
