Biography of Andrew Triggs-Hodge
Andrew Triggs-Hodge is a British athlete and rower, who has achieved great success in the sport of rowing. He was born on March 3, 1979, in the village of Halton, Buckinghamshire. However, when he was just a year old, his family moved to Hebden, near Grassington in North Yorkshire.
Triggs-Hodge attended Burnsall Primary School and later studied at Upper Wharfedale School in Threshfield. As a student, he pursued applied ecology at Staffordshire University, where he began his journey in the sport of rowing at the Rudyard Lake Rowing Club. He later pursued a master's degree at St Catherine's College, Oxford, where he continued his rowing training.
Although he started relatively late in the sport, Triggs-Hodge progressed quickly and soon began competing at the international level. While at Oxford, he was a member of the prestigious Oxford University Boat Club and participated in the traditional Oxford-Cambridge boat race in 2005. Both teams were incredibly strong that year, with Cambridge boasting several world champions and Oxford featuring silver Olympic medalist Barney Williams and future Olympic champion Peter Reed, who would become Triggs-Hodge's teammate on the Olympic squad. Oxford won the race that year, completing it in 16 minutes and 42 seconds.
Triggs-Hodge made his international debut in 2002 as part of the British eight crew, finishing 6th in the final of the Rowing World Championships in Seville. The following year, he won a bronze medal at the World Championships in Milan and secured bronze medals at the World Cup stages in Milan and Lucerne, as well as a gold medal in Lucerne.
The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens brought disappointment for the strong British crew, as they unexpectedly finished 9th overall, mainly due to injuries and sudden illness of one of the rowers, Tom James. Despite this setback, Triggs-Hodge returned to international competition after Oxford's victory in the 2005 regatta.
In the new lineup of the coxless four, Triggs-Hodge, along with his Oxford teammate Peter Reed, Alex Partridge, and Olympic gold medalist Steve Williams, won a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. He achieved his second gold Olympic medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
Triggs-Hodge has also achieved success at the World Championships, winning two gold medals in 2005 and 2006, as well as silver medals in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Since moving to London in 2000, he has been a member of the Molesey Boat Club.
In addition to his sporting accomplishments, Triggs-Hodge was honored with the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2009 for his contributions to the sport of rowing. Standing at 190 cm tall and weighing 100 kg, he has established himself as one of Britain's most successful rowers and continues to inspire future generations in the sport.
