Andrei Kolesnikov: A Renowned Russian Journalist
Early Life and EducationAndrei Kolesnikov was born into a legal family and pursued a degree in law at Moscow State University, graduating in 1987.
Judicial and Journalistic Beginnings
From 1987 to 1990, Kolesnikov worked as a senior consultant in the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR). His transition to journalism began in 1990 with his role as an observer for the magazine "Dialog."
Ascent in the Media Landscape
Throughout the 1990s, Kolesnikov held various prominent positions in the media industry. He served as an observer for "Rossiyskaya Gazeta," "Profili," and "Nezavisimaya Gazeta." He was also a regular contributor to "Ogonek" and "Novoe Russkoye Slovo" (USA). Additionally, he was the head of the Moscow branch of the literary magazine "Vrimya i My" (USA) and a reporter for Radio Liberty's "Man and Society" program.
Key Positions at "Novoye Vremya" and "Izvestiya"
In 1995, Kolesnikov joined the magazine "Novoye Vremya" as an observer and deputy editor-in-chief. He later became the magazine's first deputy editor-in-chief in January 1998. From 1998, he worked at "Izvestiya" newspaper, initially as editor of the economics department, then politics editor, and ultimately political observer. He was appointed deputy editor-in-chief in February 2005.
Contribution to Anti-Fascism and Economic History
In April 1997, Kolesnikov became the chief editor of the first issue of the anti-fascist magazine "Diagnoz." In November 1997, he was credited as one of the authors of the book "The History of Privatization in Russia." Kolesnikov later clarified in an interview that his role was to edit chapters written by Anatoly Chubais and Mikhail Boyko.
Other Notable Activities
Kolesnikov taught "Basic Concepts and Thematic Directions of Political Journalism" at the Higher School of Economics. He also held managerial positions in public relations and government relations for organizations such as FBK, a financial services company. He was a member of the Creative Council of the Union of Right Forces (SPS) and received several prestigious journalism awards.
