Gawlikowski's literary contributions were equally impressive. He founded the weekly magazine Film in 1946 and the monthly magazine Kino in 1966. He served as the editor-in-chief of the journal Kamera.

His popular book, "Through the Centuries with Chess" (1958), was translated into several languages, including English, German, and Russian. He also authored the first Polish chess encyclopedia, "Chess from A to Z" (1986-1987), in collaboration with Władysław Litmanowicz.
