Biography of Andriy Malyshko
Andriy Malyshko was a Ukrainian Soviet poet and translator. He was born on November 2, 1912, in the town of Obukhiv, which is now located in the Kiev region of Ukraine.
Early Life and Education
Andriy Malyshko's parents were Samuil Nikitovich Malyshko and Evgenia Evstafyevna, both of whom were Orthodox Christians. He attended the Obukhiv Labor School in 1920, where he learned to read and write from his older brothers, Vasily and Petr. In 1927, Malyshko graduated from the seven-year school in Obukhiv and went to Kiev to enroll in a medical technical school. However, he arrived too late for the exams and joined the school the following year.
Malyshko later enrolled in the Kiev Institute of People's Education, which he completed in 1932.
Career
After completing his education, Malyshko worked as a teacher and head of the pedagogical section at a secondary school in Ovruch, Zhytomyr region, from 1932 to 1934. He then served in the Red Army from 1934 to 1935.
From 1936 to 1939, Malyshko was the head of the literary department of the newspaper "Komsomolets Ukraine." He worked as the editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian magazine "Young Bolshevik" from 1939 to 1941. During 1941 to 1945, he served as a special correspondent for a front-line newspaper. Malyshko held the position of responsible editor of the magazine "Dnipro" from 1945 to 1947 and became a member of the editorial board of the journal "Vitchyzna" from 1947. He was also a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR.
Achievements and Awards
Andriy Malyshko received numerous awards and recognition throughout his career. He was awarded the Stalin Prize twice, in 1947 and 1951, and the State Prize of the USSR in 1969. Malyshko also received the State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR named after T.G. Shevchenko in 1964. He was a recipient of two Orders of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner, as well as two other orders.
Death and Legacy
Andriy Malyshko passed away on February 17, 1970. He was buried in Kyiv at the Baikove Cemetery. His poetic works were published in several collections, including "Ukraine, My Beloved!" (1943), "Selected Works" (1948), "Beyond the Blue Sea" (1950), "Book of Brothers" (1954), "Midday of the Century" (1960), "Road Over the Maples" (1964), and "August of My Soul" (1970). His poetry was also translated into Russian and published in Moscow by the Soviet Writer Publishing House.
