He played for Kirovohrad-based teams such as Zvezda and the Poltava Youth Sports School named after I. Gorpynko in the Ukrainian Youth Football League. In 2000, he played 12 matches for Kirovohrad's Artemida in the Amateur Championship of Ukraine.

Vorskla and Vorskla-2

In 2001, Pyatov joined Poltava's Vorskla, but initially played for their farm club, Vorskla-2, until 2004. During this time, he played 56 games and conceded 91 goals. In 2005, Pyatov made his debut for Vorskla's first team. He played 43 matches, conceding 41 goals. However, in 2006, he left Vorskla and transferred to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Shakhtar Donetsk

Pyatov joined Shakhtar Donetsk on December 13, 2006, for a transfer fee of 6 million hryvnias. He was initially loaned back to Vorskla for the remainder of the 2006/07 season. In the following season, Pyatov won the starting goalkeeper position, beating competition from Bogdan Shust. In 2009, he faced tough competition again with the arrival of Rustam Khudzhamov but managed to retain his place in the team.

Pyatov achieved great success with Shakhtar Donetsk, winning the UEFA Cup in 2008/09. He played his 100th game for Shakhtar in a match against Chernomorets. Throughout his career at Shakhtar, Pyatov has consistently been a key player for the team.

National Team

Pyatov represented Ukraine in various international tournaments. He played for the Ukrainian U-21 national team from 2004 to 2006, participating in 20 matches and conceding 22 goals. He was included in the squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup but did not play any matches.

In the qualification campaigns for the UEFA European Championships in 2008, 2012, and 2016, as well as the FIFA World Cup in 2010, Pyatov played an important role. He played in several matches, including a playoff against Greece in which Ukraine failed to qualify.

Pyatov also played for Ukraine in the UEFA Euro 2016, where he showcased his skills and made numerous saves. However, Ukraine was unable to advance past the group stage.

After the conclusion of UEFA Euro 2020, Pyatov announced his retirement from international football. However, he was later called up again in August 2021 due to injuries to other goalkeepers for the qualification matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On October 9, 2021, Pyatov made his 100th appearance for the Ukrainian national team in a qualifying match against Finland. He became the fifth player to reach this milestone.

On June 10, 2022, Pyatov announced that the UEFA Nations League match against Armenia on June 11 would be his last for the national team.

Despite retiring from international football, Pyatov continues to focus on his club career with Shakhtar Donetsk.
