Early Career and Club Debut
Aníbal Godoy, a Panamanian defensive midfielder, began his career with Chepo FC in Panama's championship in 2007. His consistent performances earned him a loan move to Argentine club Godoy Cruz in 2012, although he did not make any appearances for the team. Godoy spent six seasons with Chepo, amassing over 100 appearances.
International Debut and Youth Success
Godoy made his international debut for the Panama national team in 2010 and scored his first international goal in 2014. He represented Panama in the 2011 and 2017 Gold Cups, helping the team reach the final in 2013 and finish third in 2015.
European and MLS Adventure
In 2013, Godoy moved to Hungary's Honvéd FC, where he made his debut in the Hungarian championship. Two years later, he signed for the San Jose Earthquakes in the United States, making his MLS debut in August 2015. Godoy scored his first goal for the Earthquakes shortly after, becoming an integral part of the team's midfield.
Continued Success with Panama
In 2016, Godoy was selected for Panama's squad for the Copa América in the United States, playing in matches against Bolivia and Argentina. He went on to feature prominently in the 2017 Gold Cup, starting in all four matches Panama played before being eliminated by Costa Rica.
