Early Life and Education
Anna-Maja Kristina Henriksson was born on February 7, 1964, in Jakobstad, Finland. She studied law at the University of Helsinki, graduating with a Master of Laws degree in 1987.
Political Career
Local GovernmentIn 1997, Henriksson became a member of the Jakobstad City Council. She served as a special advisor to the Minister of Finance, Ulla-Maija Wideroos, from 2003 to 2004.
Parliament and Ministerial Positions
In the 2007 parliamentary elections, Henriksson was elected to the Eduskunta, representing the Vaasa electoral district. She was re-elected in the 2011 elections, gaining more votes. On June 22, 2011, she was appointed Minister of Justice in the Katainen government. In 2014, she retained her ministerial position in the new government. She resigned with the entire cabinet on May 29, 2015.
Henriksson regained the position of Minister of Justice in the Rinne cabinet on June 6, 2019, and continued in the role in the Marin cabinet from December 10, 2019.
Party Leadership
Swedish People's Party ChairIn 2016, Henriksson became the first female leader (chairman) of the Swedish People's Party. She was re-elected in 2018 and 2021, making history as the first party chair to hold the position for three consecutive terms.
Personal Life
Henriksson is married to Janne Johannes Henriksson, and they have two daughters, Malin and Mikaela. Malin is a weightlifter who represented Finland at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
