Annie Donovan: A Legendary Basketball Icon
Anne Donovan was an American professional basketball player and coach who made a significant impact on the sport. Throughout her career, she achieved numerous accolades as both a player and a coach.
Playing Career
As a player, Donovan was a dominant center for the United States national team. She helped the team win Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988. In addition, she won a gold medal at the 1986 FIBA World Championship. Donovan's exceptional skills and leadership earned her induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.
Coaching Career
In her coaching career, Donovan made history by becoming the first woman to lead a team to a WNBA championship. In 2004, she guided the Seattle Storm to the title. She also led Team USA to a gold medal at the 2008 Olympics.
Throughout her career, Donovan coached for various teams, including the Indiana Fever, Charlotte Sting, New York Liberty, and Seton Hall Pirates. She also served as an assistant coach for Team USA from 1998 to 2004 and was the head coach of the Connecticut Sun from 2013 onwards.
